Central Park — During a summer Computer Programming Camp at the Washington State School for the Blind, 14 visually impaired and blind students were offered the opportunity to express themselves using digital cameras, thanks to local photographer Gary L. Scott. “I wanted to empower sight-impaired people with a creative photographic outlet. These are intelligent young people who can create photographic art with us acting as visual mentors,” Scott said. The students shot all of their images on the WSSB campus and were assisted by Scott, Carrie Billy, Anna Wickham, Wade Enos and several WSSB staff members. Scott worked well into the night to print and matte each student’s chosen work, and provided them a CD of all of their shots to take home to show their families. The students’ photos can be viewed at http://www.columbian.com/photos/galleries.
