Esther Short — Bob and Sharon Skinner are the grandparents of a remarkable Boy Scout. Nathaniel Stafford, 12, was on a quest to raise $10,000 to fight malaria when he visited his grandparents in early August. The money will buy 1,000 nets for the Nothing But Nets campaign protecting 1,000 families from contracting malaria. His efforts included a 100-mile walk to raise awareness of the disease. During a meet-and-greet at Dolce Gelato on Aug. 5, $1,200 was added to Stafford’s fundraising efforts. The total of Stafford’s work reached $10,600 after the event, $600 more than his goal. Stafford has been featured in Time Magazine and honored at the United Nations.
