Sprite Fest 2011 will be held at Reflection Plaza

Sprite Fest 2011 will be held Saturday, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Reflection Park, located at 1703 Main St., in Washougal.

New Horizons Church and the Inter-Faith Treasure House are partnering to provide 300 backpacks to help local families defray the cost of starting the new school year.

In addition to the backpack give-away, food from SweetFire BBQ will be available for purchase, and there will be activities for youth and their families including face painting, carnival games, and a dunk tank. There will also be performances by music groups, solo artists, and dance and theatrical performances.

Library sleepover is Sept. 30

Kids in first through sixth grades are invited to participate in a sleepover at the Camas Public Library.

The event will be held Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. Youth should bring their pajamas and a sleeping bag for a night including games, a movie, food, crafts and stories.

Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Once admitted, families must stay in the library all night.

Pizza will be served at 7:30 p.m., and breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. on Oct. 1.

Skyridge hosts open house

Skyridge Middle School, 5220 N.W. Parker St., Camas, is hosting an orientation for sixth-grade and new seventh- and eighth-grade students from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31.

The event will include an informational session with administrators, distribution of student schedules, and the opportunity to locate classrooms and meet teachers and tour the campus.

There will also be opportunities to purchase school items and pay fees, ask questions, and connect with friends.

Returning seventh- and eighth-grade students can pick up their class schedule, purchase school items and pay fees on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., and 1 to 6 p.m.; or Friday, Sept. 2, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Skyridge detailed supply list can be viewed at schools.camas.wednet.edu/skyridge.

Back-to-school immunization and sports PE clinic set

An adolescent back-to-school immunization and sports physical exam clinic will be held Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Lacamas Medical Group, 3240 N.E. Third Ave., in Camas.

Students must be accompanied by a parent and bring immunization records. Sports physical exams are $40. Pre-schoolers must make an appointment for a well-child visit.

There will be a drawing for a free backpack.

Low cost back-to-school immunizations available

Immunizations for children younger than age 19 are free through Washington’s Childhood Vaccine Program. Charges for office visits or administration fees may apply.

Free or low-cost immunizations for children and teens are also offered at Sea Mar Community Health Center; 313-1390; 1601 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver.

Patrons must call to make an appointment.

Parents or guardians who want to exempt their child from school and child care immunization requirements must first get information about the benefits and risks of vaccinations from a health care provider licensed in Washington.
