Actually, time to get to work because now it’s for real.
Varsity football players, most anyway, have been working hard since the winter, then into spring ball.
This day is special, though. This day, it’s official.
Wednesday is the first day of practice for the 2011 Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s football season. This is the day when every player from every team has dreams of making the playoffs, or making a run to a state title, or just improving from last year.
The Columbian will be tracking down features for the newspaper and items to publish on our blog in the coming days, leading up to the first Friday of the season, Sept. 2.
In the meantime, here is a reminder of what happened in 2010:
4A GSHL: Skyview outlasted Union in a memorable Week 9 game to win the league championship. The Storm jumped out to a 17-0 lead, the game was tied at 27 late in the third, then the Storm won the fourth quarter for a 37-34 victory. It was the third consecutive league title for the Storm, and it was Union’s first loss to a Clark County team since 2007. The Titans had been in the 3A GSHL the previous three seasons. Skyview would go on to win the state play-in game before losing in the round of 16. Union and Heritage both lost in the play-in games.
