Clark County law enforcement once again promises people who “drive hammered” will “get nailed.”
Patrols on Clark County roadways will keep an eye out for impaired drivers between Aug. 19 and Sept. 5.
Patrols arrested 110 individuals for alleged DUI in Clark County during a campaign at the same time last year. In all 2010, 1,896 people were charged with DUI in Clark County.
Besides getting “nailed,” the new “Hailey’s Law” calls for all cars of DUI drivers to be towed and impounded for at least 12 hours. If a registered owner of the car was not present at the time of arrest, he or she can get the car out of impound before the 12 hour mandate.
“This new law helps eliminate the danger of drunk drivers’ getting back into their cars and putting everyone at risk,” Lowell Porter, director of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission said in a press release. “Now all drunk drivers face the costs of towing and impound in addition to jail time, losing their driver’s license, and the high cost of a DUI.”
The Battle Ground, Camas and Vancouver police departments will partner with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol and around 10,000 other agencies nationwide in this campaign.
