A woman waving weapons and making threats from the balcony of a home in Washougal was detained by police and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver for a mental evaluation.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., Washougal Police responded to a report of a deranged woman at the 1900 Block of North Sixth Avenue. According to Sgt. Brad Chicks, when police arrived they found the woman dressed in a bikini waving a rifle and knife, threatening to “shoot and kill people.”

Chicks said a friend inside the residence was able to take the rifle away from the woman, believed to be in her 40s, who then dropped a Bible off of the balcony. When the woman came outside to retrieve it, police were able to detain her.

Chicks said officers from Camas and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office had been called in to assist, and were in the process of setting up a perimeter around the scene when the woman was detained by Chicks.

“It all went down pretty fast,” he said. “It probably would have gotten to that point if the friend hadn’t been there. The opportunity presented itself, so I had to take advantage of it.”

No one was injured in the incident.
