West Minnehaha — In April, Trevor Brown of Eagle Scout Troop 393 approached Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation with hopes of revitalizing the Ellen Davis Trailhead on Northeast 54th Street. Ellen Davis was an inspirational community member and childhood neighbor to Brown.

“He had a well thought-out plan, a fundraising goal and striking determination to see this project through; he just needed a little bit of guidance and the OK to move forward,” said Nastassja Pace, the parks department volunteer coordinator.

In late May, Brown, members of his troop, family and community members joined together for a seven-hour, 20-person volunteer event and returned the trailhead to its original, beautiful and safe state. The crew removed several bags of trash, trimmed 50 yards of overgrowth, laid 40 yards of gravel and repaired displaced pavers and the Ellen Davis commemorative wooden bench.
