Brush Prairie — Battle Ground district school board members plan to interview four applicants for a vacant board seat on April 30, then immediately vote on their choice to replace Karen Lehman.
The board weighed trimming the field, but chose instead to interview all four separately in a public session starting at 7 a.m. in the district office, 11104 N.E.149th St. in Brush Prairie, a spokesman said. Following a closed executive session to discuss candidate qualifications, the board is scheduled to reconvene about 9 a.m. in open session for a roll-call vote. The new member will take office on the spot and participate in the remainder of the day’s meeting.
The applicants are:
• John David Fitzgerald, local resident since 1972. He retired as U.S. international vice president of the United Transportation Union. He has volunteered in classrooms at Captain Strong Primary School and served as PTA president there.
• Kenneth Allen Root, resident of the Venersborg area since 1995. He is western regional sales manager for Rosenberger of North America, a supplier of test and measurement devices for the microwave industry. Root has served on the district’s Fiscal Advisory Committee, the Battle Ground High School Booster Club and Grad Night Committee, and lists other volunteer work.
