Orchards — Local author Amanda Washington just released the first book in her teen series, “Chronicles of the Broken,” a series she says has its roots in Christian rock.

Washington has two teenage boys who are avid readers. “The older they get, the harder it is for me find books they enjoy that I approve of,” she said. So she decided to write a novel she thought any teen could enjoy.

The book was inspired by a song called “This is a Call” by Canadian band Thousand Foot Krutch. The coming-of-age series tells the stories of five teens in desperate need of answers to life’s most difficult questions.

Besides being the mother of five boys, Washington is a vice president of the Professional Insurance Agents Western Alliance, volunteers with her church youth group and writes in her spare time.
