Esther Short — More than 40 volunteers helped The Vancouver Downtown Association plant trees April 9.

In two hours, the volunteers, under the guidance of Jessica Antoine of Urban Forestry, planted 38 trees. This brings the total of trees planted in downtown Vancouver to 101 in three years.

The idea is that the trees will soften downtown’s appearance and make it a more inviting place for shoppers and visitors. When the new trees get large enough, the VDA wants to light them to create some charm.
