Central Park — Can she make a cherry pie, Billy Boy, Billy Boy? If she couldn’t before, she can now. Fifty students from the Washington State School for the Blind made 80 pies from scratch during the school’s annual pie-making event April 12.

The students created the pies under the direction of Ridgefield Lion Chef Frank Zerafa and Chef Melanie Crawford from Kamlu Retirement Home, Chef Jody Berrigan from Willow Gardens Retirement Home in Puyallup, Chef Judge Sullivan from Point Defiance Retirement Home in Tacoma, and Chef J.D. Thomas from the NW Culinary Institute.

After the baking lessons, Lion’s Club members and volunteers attended a soup and salad supper, enjoyed a music program put on by the students and ended the evening with a — what else? — pie and ice cream social.
