Prep football Week 4: Ridgefield vs. La Center

The Columbian
Published: September 24, 2010, 12:00am

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at La Center Middle School

Records: Ridgefield (3-0, 1-0 Trico); La Center (2-1, 0-1 Trico); Trico League game

Game notes: The Spudders’ return to the Trico League got off to a solid start with a 31-0 win over White Salmon last week … RB Dylan Young is averaging 162.7 yards a game for the Spudders. … Both teams based their offense on a solid running attack, with capable passers. … La Center’s Seth Baxter has 331 yards this season … Seven turnovers killed the Wildcats in their league opener against Toledo. … Falling behind early forced La Center to depend more heavily on the passing game, which became difficult in last week’s soggy conditions. … The 186 yards La Center gave up to Toledo’s Bryson Holmes; not a good omen when going up against the county’s top rusher coming to town in Young. … But if the Wildcats can control the game early, it will allow them to go to their 1-2 rushing attack with Baxter and Ryan Kulla.

The Columbian’s take: Field conditions will certainly be better this week, and that should work in La Center’s favor. It’s a yardstick game for Ridgefield to see where it stands this season. La Center’s experience should be the difference. PICK: LA CENTER
