Prep football Week 4: Kelso vs. Union

The Columbian
Published: September 24, 2010, 12:00am

When, where: 5 p.m. Friday at McKenzie Stadium

Records: Kelso (3-0); Union (2-1); non-league game

Game notes: Kelso has been winning with defense, holding Mark Morris to 6 points, Columbia River to 3 points and shutting out Hudson’s Bay … Union will provide the Hilander defense with their toughest test to date. … Union’s Zak Browning rushed for 285 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Westview of Beaverton, Ore. … Kelso forced eight turnovers from Mark Morris and seven from River. … Union’s defense also has not been too shabby. … Expect a low-scoring battle.

The Columbian’s take: Even though Kelso’s defense has been great, the offense has not been a scoring machine. Even against Bay, Kelso got a kickoff return for a TD and set up another score with a long punt return. We expect Union to deny Kelso big plays on special teams. And the Titans offense is starting to hit its stride. PICK: UNION
