When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Longview Memorial Stadium, Longview
Records: Hockinson (0-3), Mark Morris (1-2); 2A Greater St. Helens League opener for both teams.
Game notes: The difference between winning and losing for the Monarchs this season has been turnovers. Mark Morris has turned the ball over 15 times in its losses to Kelso and River Ridge. … Those losses have tempered some of the optimism the Monarchs had going into the season. … But league play brings a fresh start. And for the league opener, the Monarchs will go with senior Jeremy Wolf at QB … Hockinson has a very young team, and the Hawks have been learning lessons the hard way. … After two solid games, RB Cameron Flemming was held to 40 yards on five carries last week.
The Columbian’s take: Because of a scheduling quirk, this is the first of two meetings between the Hawks and Monarchs, and this meeting is the league meeting. Not that it matters much. We expect both meetings to end with the same result. PICK: MARK MORRIS
