Prep football Week 4: Castle Rock vs. Stevenson

The Columbian
Published: September 24, 2010, 12:00am

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Stevenson HS

Records: Castle Rock (1-2, 0-1 Trico); Stevenson (3-0, 1-0 Trico); Trico League game.

Game notes: Castle Rock is a perennial league title contender. Stevenson is trying to get into the class. A win over the Rockets would help the Bulldogs’ cause. … Castle Rock is coming off a 12-6 loss to Kalama in a defensive struggle last week. … Castle Rock RB Brady Gardner rushed for 107 yards last week. … Castle Rock also lost 40-6 to Montesano in Week 2. … Stevenson is led by all-league QB Zach Castro, but the Bulldogs have won with defense this season. … The Bulldogs have recorded three consecutive shutouts to open the season, including last week’s 23-0 win over Ilwaco. … Linebacker Christian Morris had 17 tackles last week. … Castle Rock will provide a big test to Stevenson’s scoreless streak.

The Columbian’s take: It’s a matchup of a team (Stevenson) that has not allowed a point all season against a team that has scored 14 totals points the past two weeks (Castle Rock). The Bulldogs’ defense is good, and we haven’t seen Castro at his best yet. PICK: STEVENSON
