Union 34, Westview (Ore.) 14
Zak Browning rushed for 285 yards and four touchdowns on 35 carries as the Titans took command in the second half for the interstate victory in Beaverton, Ore.
Browning scored on runs of 5, 3, 56 and 7 yards.
“He had a great night tonight,” Union coach Cale Piland said.. “We played really well up front. Kids were getting off the ball, and he was just a workhorse. Thirty-five carries is a ton of times to carry the football, and he didn’t wear down. In fact, he wore them down.”
Union led 7-0 when Kieran Weatherspoon scooped up a snap that sailed over the head of Westview’s punter and ran it in from 22 yards out. Browning’s first score put the Titans (2-1) ahead 14-7 in the final minute of the first half, but the Wildcats (1-2) capitalized on a coverage breakdown to run back the resulting kickoff and tie it at the break.
“We had done good things and felt good, and the kids felt confident if we could just eliminate mistakes in the second half,” Piland said. “That’s what we did.”
