Prep football Week 2: Heritage vs. Mark Morris

The Columbian
Published: September 9, 2010, 12:00am

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Longview Memorial Stadium, Longview

Records: Heritage 0-1, Mark Morris 0-1; non-league game

Game notes: This is the first meeting between the 4A Timberwolves and the 2A Monarchs. … Heritage is coming off a 41-13 loss to Issaquah, the No. 6 team in Class 4A … Despite losing 22-6 to Kelso in Week 1, Mark Morris still warranted to be among the teams to watch in the Tacoma News Tribune’s 2A state rankings. … Mark Morris turned the ball over eight times against Kelso, including five in the first quarter. … Dan Feeney led Mark Morris with 59 yards rushing. … Riley O’Dell was 9 of 16 passing for 114 yards, while Jake Dahlberg was 9 for 11 for 78 yards. Both had TD passes. … Ben Lyons caught eight passes for 97 yards.

Columbian’s take: A matchup of a 4A team and 2A team would seem to favor the 4A team. But Heritage lost to 2A W.F. West last season. Mark Morris reached the 2A semifinals last year. If the Monarchs limit their mistakes, they’ll give Heritage a battle. But the Timberwolves should be battle-tested after Week 1. Pick: Heritage
