PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Mayor Sam Adams has dismissed the members of the police bureau’s budget advisory committee and plans to appoint new members with Chief Mike Reese.
The Oregonian reports members of the committee were insulted by the impersonal letter sent Aug. 23. They suspect their dismissal is retaliation for past criticism of the mayor.
Committee co-chair T.J. Browning said the mayor and police chief like citizen input they can control.
The committee analyzes police spending decisions and makes recommendations to city commissioners.
