Prep football Week 9: Stevenson vs. White Salmon

The Columbian
Published: October 29, 2010, 12:00am

When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at White Salmon HS

Records: Stevenson (7-1, 5-1); White Salmon (1-7, 1-5); 1A Trico League game

Game notes: The Bulldogs have an all-league QB in Zach Castro, but Stevenson has posted a 7-1 mark this season on the strength of its defense. In all seven wins, the Bulldogs have limited opponents to 14 points or fewer. … After scuffling early in the season, White Salmon’s offense has gained momentum in recent weeks, averaging 35 points in each of the past three games. … But the Bruins are 1-2 in those games. … A win will give Stevenson at least a share of the Trico League championship. If Toledo stumbles again, the Bulldogs will take the No. 1 seed to the district playoffs and get an automatic berth to the state playoffs. … A win will at least guarantee the Bulldogs a home district playoff game next week.

The Columbian’s take: This is the battle for bragging rights in the Gorge. Stevenson has been too strong this season. PICK: Stevenson
