When, where: 7 p.m. Friday at Kelso HS
Records: Kelso (5-2, 3-1); Prairie (2-5, 1-4); 3A GSHL game
Game notes: Kelso came out of the gate 3-0 and looked like it had a suffocating defense, limited foes to nine points in three games. Then the Hilanders ran into a real suffocating defense in Union. Since, then the Hilanders battled to tough wins over Fort Vancouver and Evergreen, two teams with a combine record of 3-11. Last week, Kelso got shut down by Mountain View. So while there looks to be a clear break in the league between teams with winning records and those without, the Hilanders look vulnerable against the Falcons. However, Prairie’s defense gave up 300 yards on the ground last week to Hudson’s Bay. And that plays right into Kelso’s hand. Prairie QB Cameron Weisenborn played well after replacing injured starter Colin Seitz last week. But he will have to avoid turnovers if Prairie is to have a chance.
The Columbian’s take: Kelso, playing at home, will look to re-establish itself as a playoff team in the 3A GSHL. And last week’s loss to Mountain View will ensure the Hilanders won’t look past Prairie to Camas next week. PICK: Kelso
