A fire in an awning brought Fire District 6 firefighters into action Thursday morning.

The fire was reported around 11:15 a.m. at the Action Food Mart, 309 N.E. 76th St. The food mart is one of four units in a small complex that is being remodeled.

The fire apparently started while workers were on the roof. They knocked down the flames with bottled water until firefighters arrived to take over.

Two of the other units in the strip center are vacant, while the fourth is occupied by a dry cleaner.

Damage was expected to be minor, said Dawn Johnson, a Fire District 6 spokeswoman.
