Fire at Hazel Dell RV park destroys motor home

A man burned his feet escaping from a burning motor home Monday that fire investigators later deemed a “total loss.”

The motor home in a Hazel Dell RV park was destroyed in a fire reported at about 8:40 a.m., said Dawn Johnson, a Clark County Fire District 6 spokeswoman. When the first fire crews responded, the entire roof of the home was engulfed.

A 42-year-old man was transported by an American Medical Response ambulance to be treated for burns at an area hospital, Johnson said. The man’s feet were burned as he tried to escape, Johnson said.

“Apparently, he kind of fell out of the door of the trailer,” Johnson said.

A leaky propane tank helped spread the fire to two nearby trailers, which were both damaged.

Johnson said it took firefighters about 10 minutes to knock down the fire at Sam’s Good RV Park, 8510 N.E. Highway 99, but crews expected to remain on scene throughout the day to watch over hot spots. The cause of the fire and full extent of the damage remain unclear.
