There was nothing fancy about the Skyview Storm on Friday.

There didn’t have to be.

Controlling the line of scrimmage and cashing in on good field position, the Storm stayed on track for the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League’s top prize with a workmanlike 42-3 win over Evergreen at Kiggins Bowl.

Parker Henry ran for 95 yards and scored three touchdowns, and quarterback Kieran McDonagh threw for 223 yards and three scores in a dominating win for the Storm.

After establishing a pounding running game in the first half, the Storm used several big pass plays in the third quarter to leave no doubt.

Ellis Henderson caught a pair of second-half scores, one on a swing pass that he took up the right sideline for a 62-yard touchdown.

The Storm’s biggest problems were some drive-slowing penalties. And the only thing that appeared to go wrong was an ankle injury to Karl Graves after his only catch, a 37-yarder on a streak pattern up the right sideline to set up a Skyview score.

Skyview led 21-0 at halftime, helped by three Evergreen turnovers.

The Storm converted first-half drives that started from the Evergreen 38-, 24-, and 41-yard lines.

The first score came on a 38-yard pass down the middle from McDonagh to Forrest Russell, who found a gap in the middle of the defense and ran untouched to the end zone.

Henry did the honors twice in the second quarter, scoring on short runs.

Evergreen struggled almost from the start. On Skyview’s second possession, which ended with a missed field goal, the Plainsmen called timeouts on three consecutive plays to organize their defense.

Evergreen workhorse Chase Lawrence earned his 69 yards on 22 carries, most of them fighting Skyview defensive traffic.

Skyview finished with a net yardage advantage of 358-126, with all of Evergreen’s yards on the ground. McDonagh completed 11 of 14 passes for 223 yards, and seven Storm receivers caught passes.
