1A Trico League: Ridgefield 38, Kalama 18

Dylan Young had 238 yards and three touchdowns, and the host Spudders turned a productive second quarter into a Trico League win over the Chinooks.

Young carried 27 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns, and caught five passes for 105 yards and one score.

Ridgefield scored three touchdowns in the second quarter and tacked on a Matt Newman field goal to close the first half with a 31-12 lead.

Ridgefield coach Kitt Rawlings said strong special teams play — including the punting of Newman — gave the Spudders field position they took advantage of.

Fullback Matt Cushwa, filling in for Juan Valencia, also had a strong game. He rushed for 107 yards on 14 carries. Valencia (ankle sprain) played only on defense and had a strong game, according to Rawlings.

Leading 31-18 late in the game, Ridgefield converted on a fake field goal to seal the victory. Rawlings said he was worried that Kalama had blocked a kick earlier and could make the game close if it happened again.
