BATTLE GROUND — The Skyview Storm gained 347 yards from scrimmage and picked up 18 first downs — just in the first half Thursday — and cruised to a Class 4A Greater St. Helens League football victory.
Parker Henry rushed for 199 yards and three touchdowns, and Kieran McDonagh threw for 133 yards and two scores, leading the Storm to a 52-0 win over Battle Ground.
The Storm (4-2, 2-0 4A GSHL) knew going into the matchup that they were facing a struggling team. They figured it might turn into a runaway. But they also had goals to reach.
“Get better, improve,” Henry said. “We wanted to pick up where we left off in the second half last week. Last week, we scored 42 points in the second half.”
This week, the Storm got 35 points in the first half.
The Storm scored on their first three possessions, with a touchdown run from Taylor Millard and two from Henry.
Skyview then added two more touchdowns late in the second quarter, courtesy of McDonagh passes. The junior, who was 12 of 15 for his 133 yards, found Karl Graves for a 7-yard score with 2:08 left in the half.
A minute-and-a-half later, McDonagh connected with Forrest Russell on a wide receiver screen. Russell burst free for a 29-yard touchdown and a 35-0 lead.
Skyview kicked off in the second half and recovered a live ball when no Tiger went for the bouncing ball deep in Battle Ground territory.
Two plays later, Henry was in the end zone.
Four minutes into the second half, Russell was in the end zone again, this time catching the screen from backup QB Jordan Berni.
That put the rest of the game into “running-clock mode,” with the clock only stopping for scores and injuries.
Nick Phillips, who was perfect on his seven extra points, drilled a 40-yard field goal to cap the scoring.
Skyview outgained Battle Ground 440-67.
“We really needed a good week of practice this week,” said defensive lineman Cody Fields, who had two sacks. “It didn’t matter who we were playing. We put everything together.”
