Prep football Week 5: Evergreen vs. Battle Ground

The Columbian
Published: October 1, 2010, 12:00am

When, where: 5 p.m. Friday at McKenzie Stadium

Records: Evergreen (0-4, 0-0); Battle Ground (1-3, 0-0); 4A GSHL league game

Online broadcast: www.sportsbeatradio.com

Game notes: Evergreen’s non-league schedule has been brutal, so there’s more to the Plainsmen’s 0-4 mark than meets the eye. … Looking at last week’s results against Eisenhower of Yakima, the Plainsmen appear to be improving. … RB Chase Lawrence rushed for 128 yards. … QB Anthony Thomas was 13 for 21 passing for 161 yards and two TDs. … Evergreen trailed 21-20 in the third quarter before the Cadets pulled away for a 48-26 win. … Battle Ground’s lone win was an overtime win over winless Woodland … The Tigers gave up 35 points last week to a Hudson’s Bay team that managed only seven points in its first three games. … Battle Ground’s Kevin Haynes rushed for 184 yards and two TDs last week. … Evergreen’s two previous losses were to Richland, which is ranked No. 7 in 4A and to Lakes, ranked No. 6 in 3A.

The Columbian’s take: Battle Ground’s struggles on defense will come as good news for Evergreen. The Plainsmen are looking for some good news in October after taking some hard knocks in September. PICK: Evergreen
