A man with a semiautomatic handgun tucked in the waist of his pants cleaned out the till at a Hazel Dell restaurant about 9:40 p.m. Sunday.

The robber, who wore a bandana over his face, targeted the Muchas Gracias fast food restaurant at 6203 N.E. Highway 99.

After taking the money from the cash register, he left on foot through the north door.

Shortly thereafter, Jose M. Rodriguez of Vancouver was located by a deputy who saw him step out from some bushes behind a building slightly more than a block from the restaurant, according to a news release issued by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

A K-9 unit tracked to the location and discovered unspecified evidence.

Rodriguez was taken into custody and later admitted to robbing the restaurant, the release said.

He was in the Clark County Jail on Monday night on suspicion of first-degree robbery. Bail was $25,000.
