Who: Susan Page
Neighborhood association: First Place.
Neighborhood Location: East Vancouver, across the street from Evergreen High School.
Position: President.
Tenure: Three years.
Lived in neighborhood: Six years.
Outside job: Vice president of sales, FloristWare.
What she likes best about the neighborhood:“We have 276 homes, but act as our own community.” The neighborhood is very close-knit which is very important, Page said. An e-mail tree reaches 200 of the 276 homes and allows neighbors to inform each other of what is going on.
The biggest challenge facing the neighborhood: “I’m concerned about cuts in police and fire. … I don’t know how that can even be a possibility. When you cut police and fire, you cut down our safety level.”
Listen up: “It’s time for city council to listen to neighborhood association officials. Too much is filtered through city employees. I challenge the council to come to neighborhood association meetings to listen.”
