More than 200 firefighters from Vancouver visited the Heathman Lodge on April 10 for an annual awards banquet. Special honors were extended to four retirees: Captain Curt Anderson, Captain Val Stewart, Captain Don Woodhouse and Firefighter Ed White. The following awards were issued after a vote by members of the firefighters union:

Jack Anderson, Walnut Grove Fire House, was voted “Firefighter of the Year.” His nomination says he has a proven track record, is professional and takes time to teach new firefighters essential skills.

Woodhouse was voted “Company Officer of the Year.”

Kyle Allpress and Fire Medic Eric Becker from former Rescue 3 A Shift of Heights Fire House were named “Company of the Year.”

Deputy Fire Marshal Kylie Jackson was named “Fire Prevention Officer of the Year.”

Matt Thierfelder and Randy Marler were given Wilbur White Achievement Awards for their individual efforts to raise funds.
