Concordia falls in NAIA semifinals
One goal was enough for defending national champion Lee University in the NAIA women’s soccer semifinals Friday against Concordia of Portland.
Jamie Achten’s goal in the 12th minute gave the Tennessee school a 1-0 victory in Decatur, Ala. The Lady Flames, who defeated the Cavaliers in last year’s title game, claimed back-to-back national championships Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Point Loma Nazarene.
The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Cavaliers (21-3-0), who reached the national semifinals for the fifth time in program history.
Concordia’s roster includes Camas High School graduate Sami Andrews, a junior midfielder; Ridgefield High School graduate Kailey Anderson, a freshman midfielder; and Vancouver’s Shelby Bloodworth, a graduate of Portland’s Central Catholic High School and a freshman forward. Andrews was the only one of the trio to play Saturday, recording two shots on goal.
