Vancouver police arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of setting fire Tuesday afternoon to a patch of trees that caused $2,000 in damage.

The fire started just before 4 p.m., at a vacant lot at 5010 Nickelson Road. The fire spread over 30 feet of terrain and damaged four cedar trees, according to Vancouver firefighter-spokesman Jim Flaherty.

The area is surrounded by homes, raising concerns for firefighters, who were able to bring flames under control quickly, Flaherty said.
