Weather Eye: Look for warm, dry July
Sunday, July 20, 2008 By Pat TimmThere isn’t much to write home about this week weatherwise, as things will be pretty normal for the latter part of July — most days with morning clouds and highs near 80 degrees and no big heat waves on the horizon.
We will have several troughs of low pressure swing by to our north, but at this point they look dry over our area.
Vancouver’s average mean temperature so far this month is running about five degrees above average, and rainfall is about a third of an inch below average. So, warm and dry with no end in sight.
The official climate outlook still calls for below-average temperatures this summer, so if that is to come to pass, we would need some cooler days. Time will tell. At least we know it will continue dry under the current weather patterns.
Not really weather related, but there were several earthquakes scattered around Friday evening, a large one of the coast of Japan and a moderate one off the Oregon coast, about nine miles deep. Fortunately, no tsunamis warnings were issued.
Skies were clear enough to see the full Buck Moon on Friday evening. It is called the Buck moon because deer begin to grow new antlers at this time. This moon also has been called the Full Thunder Moon, because thunderstorms can be frequent during this month.
