Parks in your neighborhood: Arnada
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 By KIM JARVIS of The ColumbianArnada Park is 3 acres of quiet space bordered on two sides by busy roads and on the other two by quiet residential areas.
A large play structure with slides and swings beckons the young at heart; benches are provided for the less active. There’s a covered gazebo, picnic tables and a paved walkway that winds around a nice grassy field.
The park is also home to a huge black walnut tree at the north end of G Street that has been recognized by the city of Vancouver as a heritage tree. That entrance was upgraded by neighbors in 2000 when they joined together to build the rock wall that won a Community Pride Design award in 2003.
Vancouver’s Arnada School was built in 1910 at East 26th (now Fourth Plain Boulevard) and H streets, occupying almost four square blocks at the site of the present park.
Location: The park is south of Fourth Plain Boulevard at the end of West 25th and G Streets.
Facitlities: Play structure, picnic tables, benches, basketball hoop and covered gazebo.
Fees: No.
Hours: 7 a.m. to dusk.
