CAMAS — Mayor Paul Dennis will cut the ribbon and special kids activities and music will add atmosphere as the Camas Farmers Market opens for the first time Saturday.

The market is scheduled to be open every Saturday through Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fifth Avenue between Birch and Cedar streets.

Chalk art activities for kids will be coordinated by local artist Kim Poloson; a chef’s demonstration is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; and live music, featuring local musician Matt Brown from the band Ruby Hill, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Camas Farmers Market aims to strengthen connections between local farmers and the community, said Executive Director Carren Walker.

Local farms and vendors will include: 6 Acre Farm, Bruns Bakery, Camas Roots, Chor Vang Flowers, Draper Girls Farm, Hill Tree Farms, Nature’s Choice, Nutz R Us, Purple Rain Vineyard, Scented Acres, Silver Star Vinery and Twin Brooks Herb Farm.

Organic and pastured meats can be ordered, and vendors will offer local and organic produce, plants, fresh flowers, and prepared foods, Walker said.

“American families are seeking ways of becoming more sustainable within their own community,” farmer Paula Korell of 6 Acre Farm said in a news release.

“Sustainability starts by building a seamless relationship with your local farmer. 6 Acre Farm is grateful for all the support within the city and community.”

Applications from vendors, volunteers and musicians still are being accepted, Walker said.
