A fire just outside of the Vancouver city limits destroyed an RV and halted traffic Wednesday morning.

Vancouver Fire Department crews were dispatched at 8:24 a.m. to 5200 N.E. 88th St. for the report of a vehicle fire.

Arriving crews in two engines and another fire department vehicle spotted flames billowing from an RV parked on a residential property, Vancouver firefighter Jesse Martin said.

There were two people living inside the vehicle, a mother and her young daughter, who made it outside before firefighters arrived on scene, Martin said.

They were taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland for evaluations. Martin was unsure if the mother and daughter had been injured or if they were transported as a precaution.

The first arriving engine reached the RV within six minutes, and the fire was under control in about five minutes, according to the fire department.

However, the blaze rendered the RV uninhabitable.

Northeast 88th Street was shut down during the response due to the fire’s proximity to the road, Martin said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
