A 34-year-old man faces a handful of charges, including first-degree assault and assault on a child, for allegedly firing a handgun out of his vehicle in the Fourth Plain Village neighborhood.

Theautry James Zeno appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of three counts of assault — a general charge in the first degree, domestic violence-related and one involving a child — felony harassment, possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Court documents do not list an address for Zeno. His birthplace is listed as Fresno, Calif.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a woman who had previously dated Zeno was outdoors with her daughter and a friend around midnight Saturday. They planned to walk from a residence in the 2500 block of Neals Lane to Towne Pump, a nearby convenience store at 3515 E. Fourth Plain Blvd.

The woman “spotted Zeno arrive in front of the residence, and he began to yell at her about owing $40,” the affidavit says.

Zeno pointed a handgun out of the driver side window of his tan Oldsmobile and fired a single round, according to the affidavit. No one was hurt. The woman’s female friend told police it was unclear toward whom Zeno was directing the gunfire, according to the affidavit.

Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage from the area and noted that the mother was placing her child into a stroller when Zeno allegedly shot the gun.

The incident allegedly didn’t end there. The women walked to Towne Pump, and Zeno was there. The women went inside the store and told the clerk about the alleged shooting.

The clerk, who knew Zeno because he frequented the store, told him to leave, according to the affidavit. Zeno allegedly responded by threatening to kill the clerk.

Zeno went to his vehicle and began to drive off. An arriving Vancouver police officer witnessed an Oldsmobile “slowly traveling west through the parking lot,” before the driver quickly made a turn onto Rossiter Lane from Fourth Plain Boulevard and parked the car, the affidavit says.

A short time later, officers contacted and detained the man in the car, according to the affidavit. Everyone involved in the incident identified the vehicle and Zeno as its sole occupant.

Clark County Superior Court Judge Scott Collier set Zeno’s bail at $400,000. An arraignment hearing was set for Oct. 26.
