Letter: Give a push to mass transit

The Columbian’s March 17 “High speed rail gets a push” headline brought to mind a comment made several years ago in a letter from longtime Denver-based friends who visit Russia every few years. He is a professional photographer; she is a semi-retired journalist who specialized in Russian studies and teaches journalism there from time to time. They see a lot of Russia. Following a stay in Vladivostok, and despite their observation that the city has a dark side/light side split personality, our friends noted that, “Even out here, trams and high-speed mag-lev trains provide wonderfully efficient public transportation. Here in Denver, we are still wrangling over a 50-years-outdated light rail system.” Sound familiar?
