MINNEAPOLIS — Alek Jacob struck out five batters over eight innings and Austin Pinorini went 3 for 4 with three RBIs for Gonzaga, which eliminated Canisius from the NCAA Tournament with an 8-2 victory Saturday in the Minneapolis Regional after a two-hour rain delay.
Gunnar Schubert missed the cycle by a double. He went 3 for 6 with two RBIs to fuel a 17-hit attack by the Bulldogs (33-23), who advanced to Game 5 of the four-team, double-elimination regional Sunday to face the loser of the UCLA-Minnesota game played later Saturday night.
Jacob threw 133 pitches, allowing seven hits and two runs. Pinorini, his catcher, also had one of Gonzaga’s four stolen bases.
Mark McKenna went 4 for 4 with a double for the Golden Griffins (35-22).
