Ty Singleton, who launched the King’s Way Christian baseball program and led the Knights to the state championship last spring, has resigned as baseball coach at the school, athletic director Ted Buck announced Monday.

Singleton joined the staff at King’s Way in 2014 and launched the varsity baseball program in 2015.

In the third year as a varsity program, Singleton led the Knights to the Class 1A state championship last May.

“I am thankful for the time to be here at” King’s Way, Singleton said in a release from the school. “I appreciate the families and the opportunity to start the baseball program. Thank you to (King’s Way Christian superintendent) John Griffin for hiring me to start this program four years ago. The coaches that I have worked with have been the most unified staff I have ever been around. It is sad to be done with this team, but God has made it clear and I am confident that this is the right decision.”

Singleton, who also previously served as the athletic director at the school, will remain on staff as a PE teacher at King’s Way Christian.

The recent passing of his father Stu Singleton, who helped coach the King’s Way state championship team, as well as Ty Singleton’s commitment to a new baseball ministry for middle and high school students in the community, Utmost Athletics, led to his decision to resign.

Singleton has 26 years  of coaching experience, with the majority coming at the college level.

“Being a close friend of Ty’s, I know that his calling for coaching is strong,” Buck said. “His love for Christ and the gospel-centered message to athletes is paramount to him. We all wish a special grace on him through his grieving process and thank him for his strong leadership and contributions to not only KW athletics, but the entire KW family.”

Buck said Singleton will continue to coach the Vancouver Cardinals American Legion team and continue to develop the Utmost Athletics ministry in Clark County.

Buck said the school is actively seeking applicants to fill Singleton’s vacancy. Interested applicants can apply online at www.kwcs.org/departments/employment and submit a resume to Buck at TedBuck@kwcs.org.

The Knights return several key players from last year’s state championship roster including pitchers Sam Lauderdale, a Washington State signee, and Damon Casetta-Stubbs, a Seattle University signee.
