Those first-ever playoff victories are never easy, but the Cougars got theirs by holding off Forks in the first round of the 1A district tournament.
Seton had a 36-25 lead at halftime, making eight 3-pointers including four by Matthew Kent, but Forks adjusted for the second half and rallied.
Forks tied the game with 58 seconds play. Seton’s Henry Demsky made a 3-pointer to put Seton back on top with 34 seconds to play. Malik Williams then made a deflection of a Forks pass and got the steal and Seton was able to run out the clock.
Demsky led the Cougars with 18 points, Kent had 15, and Isaiah Parker had 13.
Seton (9-11) advances to face La Center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at King’s Way Christian High School for a spot in the district final and place in the regional round of the 1A state tournament.
