Letter: We need transparency in politics

I agree with the editorial “Shine a Light on Dark Money” (The Columbian, April 20). Politicians are listening to their donors instead of the people. They write laws for their donors and leave us with the bill. It means my vote matters less than a big corporate check.

It’s time for a change. It’s time to throw out politicians like Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Spokane, who have voted to stop campaign finance reforms that would bring real transparency and accountability to the system. If she doesn’t want me to know who is trying to buy her election, then she shouldn’t be in Congress.

Our representatives need to represent their constituents — not the corporations and organizations that use money to buy influence. That is how we got to the present mess that we are in. It’s time for a change.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
