One person was killed, and another critically injured, in a crash near Southeast 164th Avenue and Mill Plain Boulevard in east Vancouver Wednesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the area around 6:40 p.m., for a report of a crash near Mill Plain Elementary School. Vancouver police Officer Ilia Botvinnik said the call came out as a single vehicle crash, after a vehicle hit a tree.

One person died, and another suffered critical injuries, Botvinnik said.

As of 8 p.m., officials were diverting north- and southbound traffic on Southeast 164th Avenue between Mill Plain Boulevard and Southeast First Street around the crash area, according to police.

Botvinnik said it was possible traffic in the area could see delays for hours as investigators go over the scene.
