A Vancouver man was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday night after driving off the road north of Battle Ground.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said the rider, a 54-year-old man, was heading west on Rock Creek Road toward its intersection with state Highway 503, or Lewisville Highway, around 9 p.m.

The man apparently failed to stop at the stop sign, crossed the roadway and then crashed into the western bank of the highway, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office traffic unit was investigating, and the agency said excessive speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.

The sheriff’s office did not identify the rider, pending notification of next of kin.
