The Vancouver Fire Department responded to two structure fires early Saturday morning.

The first fire occurred on a building on the dock at a private marina at S.E. 139th Avenue shortly before 2 a.m., according to Battalion Chief John Bulder. He described the damage caused by the fire as “fairly substantial,” spreading to a boat docked nearby and requiring a fireboat to extinguish it. He said the cause of the fire is not currently known.

Bulder said that fire crews also responded at 4:24 a.m. to a fire at a recycling facility at 3000 S.E. Hidden Way. He said the facility shreds and recycles car parts and that a fire arose from a pile of shredded plastic and metal. He said it was unclear what the cause of the fire was and how much damage it caused.
