Letter: Pike had her chance and failed

By Lynn Brown, VANCOUVER
Published: August 10, 2017, 6:00am

I see that Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, is considering running for a Clark County councilor position. Ouch! The damage she and the Madore faction of extreme Republicans did was horrendous to the county. I’m referring to her opposing the I-5 Bridge project with Don Benton. Question: How can we ever elect Pike to a position in government when she ignored the new casino and the new waterfront project at the old Boise Cascade site that will increase traffic immensely in her scuttling the bridge project? More than $100 million of taxpayer money in planning was totally wasted.

Politicians are supposed to have vision. Now she wants to lead the fight to finally get it done? But, wait — she had that chance. Benton, Pike, Sen. Ann Rivers, R-La Center, and Rep. Monica Stonier, D-Vancouver, cost us a whole decade of bridge lifts just before rush hours, and commuters being late to work. Benton now has a six-figure do-nothing job and the others are still representing us. Amazing.
