A Longview teen was hospitalized after her vehicle rear-ended a pickup on state Highway 503 near Woodland Monday morning.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 9 a.m., while Kevin F. Young, 43, of Woodland, had stopped for a school bus about 3 miles from Woodland when his pickup was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Cecelia K. Elkinton, 17.

The State Patrol said Elkinton wasn’t wearing a seat belt, and she was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for her injuries. The hospital said she was in satisfactory condition Monday afternoon. Young was unhurt.

Troopers said inattention caused the crash, and cited Elkinton for driving too fast to avoid a collision.
