WASHINGTON — The United States says it’s reached a deal with Israel to provide military assistance over the next 10 years.
The State Department says the deal will be signed on Wednesday in Washington. The U.S. hasn’t disclosed the exact sum, but officials familiar with the deal say it totals $38 billion during the next decade.
The officials say the deal phases out Israel’s ability to spend part of the funds on Israeli military products, rather than American military industries. It also ends Israel’s ability to spend a fraction of the aid on fuel. And Israel is agreeing not to ask Congress to approve more funds than are included in the deal.
The officials weren’t authorized to discuss the details publicly and requested anonymity.
Israel’s government had no immediate comment.
