It was Thursday, not Friday. Kickoff was at 4:30 p.m., not 7 p.m.

For the first half of their game against Heritage, the top-ranked Camas Papermakers played like they didn’t get the memo.

Trailing at halftime for the second week in a row, the Papermakers turned up the pressure after halftime to run away from Heritage 41-11 in a 4A Greater St. Helens League game Thursday at McKenzie Stadium.

“Our intensity was low,” senior Michael Matthews said. “It was kind of like a playoff game. It was a weird time, a Thursday. We came out slow. We just need to make adjustments and do what we needed to do to win the game.”

Camas came after the opening kickoff hot, driving 80 yards on seven plays with Matthews scoring on an 3-yard touchdown run.

But after that, things dried up in the first half for the Papermakers.

Heritage drove 71 yards for a field goal, and later, Matt Rivera had a 79-yard pass play to set up Cinco Orozco’s 1-yard touchdown run to give the Timberwolves an 11-6 lead they would take into halftime.

“We knew Heritage was a really good team, the best Heritage team I’ve seen in a long time,” Matthews said. “We knew they were good and we knew they were going to want to come out hot like that.”

Jack Colletto opened the second half with an interception on defense at the Heritage 49-yard line.

Seven plays later — all runs by Matthews — Camas was back in front with a 6-yard TD run by Matthews.

From there, Camas did not look back. Colletto’s 5-yard touchdown run put Camas up 20-11 at the end of the third quarter.

Colletto added another TD run in the fourth as the Papermakers pulled away in the fourth quarter.
Matthews finished with 82 yards rushing. Colletto passed for 196 yards and rushed for 54. Cooper

McNatt caught four passes for 96 yards.

Orozco led Heritage with 55 yards rushing.
