Boys basketball: Union 76, Mountain View 62

Cameron Cranston scored 25 points to lead Union to a season-opening win.

The Titans, ranked No. 3 in the Seattle Times preseason Class 4A poll, pulled away down the stretch against Mountain View, which was within six points early in the fourth quarter.

Union built a 44-26 halftime lead, which was whittled to 55-47 by the end of the third.

“We’re not happy that we lost, but we definitely showed that we can play with anybody,” Mountain View coach Aaron Shepherd said. “The kids game out and really executed on both sides of the ball in the third quarter.”

Darien Chase and Alex Hegel each scored 15 points for Mountain View (1-1).

Tyler Combs scored 16 and Kiethen Shepard added 11 for Union.
