Letter: Trump voters trash American ideals

By Roy G. Wilson, VANCOUVER

The Electoral College has again given us a president the people did not choose — the most unqualified in history. When things fall apart — and they will — I’ll try not to say “I told you so” to the fools who supported our new groper-in-chief. When their lives crumble, I hope they’ll spare us the letters, crying “I voted for Trump, but I didn’t think this would happen!” because they ignored the evidence right in front of them.

As 1991 began, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was a mighty force, but by the end of that year, it had split apart under just such arrogant leadership as we must now endure. If our union survives, and there is no guarantee it will, it could take decades to regain the basic human rights we now stand to lose.

For years, extremists have railed against anything “politically correct,” so, though it is supremely distasteful, let me put politically correct speech aside and speak the unvarnished truth: Trump supporters are gullible, ignorant, uneducated racist bigots, one and all, or some combination thereof, with no understanding of the damage they have done; they say they love America, but have trashed every true American ideal.

There, aren’t you glad I didn’t bother with diplomacy?
